Punch list and punch item
A punch list is the list of items that must be completed or corrected before a project, or a phase of it, is accepted as complete and final payment is released. Each entry is a punch item.
The standard term in the United States and Canada, and the word used on data centre and large industrial projects everywhere because the owners and commissioning teams tend to be American. Elsewhere the same list is a snag list or a defect list.
A punch list mixes two kinds of item: defects, where work is wrong, and incomplete works, where it is not done. On a data hall before integrated systems testing the list can run to hundreds of items across several walkers, and the question every morning is what is still open in which room.
How IssuesId holds it
IssuesId separates the two kinds with the Type field, Defect or Incomplete Works, so counts and reports read correctly. Items are bulk-issued to trades from a filtered list, chased by overdue rules, and the Quality Control report groups what is open by room and status for the daily read.
Two questions people ask
Definitions describe common usage and the usual shape of standard-form contracts. Your contract and your jurisdiction’s building law set the terms that apply to your job. The whole list is at the glossary.
