Rectification

Rectification is the work of fixing a defect so that it meets the contract, the drawings and the specification. A rectification notice tells the responsible party what to fix and by when; a rectification period is the time allowed.

CONSTRUCTION DEFECT GLOSSARY·UPDATED OCTOBER 2026
Where the word is used

Australian and British usage. North American documents more often say correction or remediation; the meaning is the same.

On site

Rectification is where a defect either ends or comes back. The trade fixes it, says so, and someone has to decide whether to believe them. The failures are a repaint over a leak, a fix photographed from the flattering angle, and a line ticked by somebody who was not there.

How IssuesId holds it

In IssuesId the trade marks their assignment complete only after attaching a photo of the finished work; the button is disabled until they do. That puts the defect at ready to inspect. Someone who did not do the work verifies it against the before photo and closes it, and the two names and two photos sit on the record.

Asked alongside

Two questions people ask

What is rectification in construction?
Fixing a defect so the work meets the contract, drawings and specification. A rectification notice tells the responsible party what to fix and by when. Rectification is complete when the fix has been verified, not when the trade says it is done.
How do you prove a defect was rectified?
With a photo of the finished work from the person who did it and a separate check by someone who did not, both named and timed on the record, with nothing in between edited away. One tick in a spreadsheet is a claim; two people and two photos are evidence.
